Subject: Tooth Tips
Hi
Everyone,
Gina:
Jenna and I are Dental Hygienists. We’re not dentists, but
we get to work with dentists. The name “Hygienist” comes from the word
“hygiene” which means “cleanliness.”
Jenna:
Yeah.
So we clean teeth. That’s pretty much what we do.
Gina:
We do clean teeth, but we do much more than that. We also
educate our patients to take care of their own teeth.
Jenna:
Yeah,
because that makes our job easier!
Gina:
That’s right, Jenna. It also makes the dentist’s job easier. And best of
all, it makes the patient’s life easier. Nobody likes getting a toothache.
Jenna:
By
the way, the letters after a dentist’s name are DDS.
This stands for Doctor of Dental
Surgery.
Gina:
DDS could also stand for Danny’s
Donut Shop!
Jenna:
Oh
Gina! You’re so silly!
Gina:
Nothing’s wrong with a little fun as long as we get our work done! Let’s
get busy and give the readers some tips on taking good care of their teeth.
Jenna:
Good
idea! Remember to brush your
teeth after every meal. It’s
especially
important right before bed. That’s also the best time to floss.
Gina:
Be sure to also brush your gums and your tongue. Taking care of your whole
mouth is very important. Your dental hygienist will teach you how to brush and
floss correctly.
Jenna:
One
of the best ways to take care of your teeth is to eat healthy foods.
Eat plenty of proteins, vegetables and fruits.
Gina: Choose your beverages wisely. Water is the best thing to
drink when you’re thirsty. Milk is a healthy choice and it’s good for your
teeth, too.
Jenna:
Yeah.
Avoid drinks with loaded with sugar. Even fruit juice has a lot of sugar. Be
sure to read the labels!
Gina: These tips should help you keep your teeth healthy. Take good
care of them. They do important things like help you chew, eat and speak
clearly.
Jenna:
And a
sparkling smile always helps you look and feel your best!
Love,
Gina &
Jenna
